A look back at August at Koisamo, the next chapter for Overflow FC, and what we’re building for the children next.

✍️ From the Overflow team
Reporting from Koisamo Village, Nakuru County
August brought laughter, learning and new experiences to Koisamo. Our holiday camp welcomed new children into the community centre and gave them a chance to make friends, discover new interests and simply enjoy being children, through football, music, storytelling, crafts and life skills.
Learning From What’s Around Us
From Sisal to Possibility
A camp highlight was introducing the girls to sisal craft. They learned to harvest and prepare sisal and turn the fibres into rope, and explored how it can become mats, baskets and wall hangings. Beyond the craft, they saw how something found around them can become a skill, a creative outlet and potentially a way to earn.

Finding Their Voices
Children were encouraged to participate, lead and support one another. We saw them step forward, perform, speak up and try things they had never done before, because confidence grows when children are given the chance to try.
Children preparing for national exams also received success cards and words of encouragement, a reminder that Overflow Communities Kenya is cheering them on.

Stories, Music & Play
Learning wasn’t limited to structured sessions. Singing, dancing, games and storytelling, including folk stories from Mr. Franco, gave children space to connect, express themselves and have fun.

Generosity In Action
100 pairs of Crocs
Thanks to generous donations, children received 100 pairs of Crocs and clothes, and meals were provided throughout camp so they had the energy to fully take part.
A simple gift can bring comfort, dignity and joy to a child. Thank you to everyone who gave.

On The Pitch
Overflow FC: From Koisamo to Ward Champions
Overflow FC was formed in late 2025 to give local talent a structured pathway to grow and compete, after years of playing mostly in informal community tournaments.
Less than a year later, the team has been crowned Soin Ward Champions in the Governor’s Cup and will now represent our ward at the next level of the tournament.
It’s a big milestone for such a young club, and proof of what happens when young people have a team, a place to train and people who believe in them. As they move on to the next stage, they carry the pride of Koisamo with them.

Looking Ahead
December Camp: “It Starts With Me”
As we prepare for our December holiday camp, we hope to welcome around 150 children for another season of fun, learning and discovery. From sports and music to creative activities, mentorship and life skills, every day is a chance to learn beyond the classroom, and sharing meals together is part of it. Your support makes this possible.

Something Bigger Is Growing
A Library for Koisamo 📚
What happens when a child wants to read another story or find a quiet place to study, but there are no books? We want to change that. We’re working towards a small temporary library at the Koisamo Community Centre.
400
books to start
CAD 4,500
goal (about KES 427,500)
The collection will include storybooks in English and Kiswahili, curriculum-aligned readers, and study materials for older students preparing for exams, books children can borrow, enjoy at home and learn from all year. It’s also an important first step towards a literacy programme for our community.
How can you help bring it to life?
📖 Donate books
New or gently used storybooks, Kiswahili readers, school readers, set books and past exam papers.
📚 Support the collection
Help us buy books, shelves, furniture and other library essentials.
🤝 Spread the word
Share the project with friends, schools, book clubs and potential supporters.
One book can spark curiosity. A library can help that curiosity grow!
Let’s make it happen, together
Whether you donate food for a camp meal, a football for the next match, art supplies for a budding young artist or a book for our future library, you are helping a child learn, play, dream and thrive.
